To varying degrees, the workshop
can be adapted to either of two points
of emphasis, those of listening and
of making vocal sounds. We will explore
aural awareness various activities,
including exercises and pieces based
on the Deep Listening work of composer
Pauline Oliveros.
A simple and logical understanding
of the voice's physiology is also
given.
The voice is an extremely personal
mode of expression, and to be able
to use it advantageously one must
learn to hear it accurately. Throughout,
these themes of vocalizing and listening
are tied together by a series of guided
vocal improvisations that are fun.
Suitable for singers of all levels
and also for complete beginners. Has
also proven to be successful with
dancers, actors, musicians and visual
artists.
"The body literally vibrates
with sound. (sic) This gives humans
a striking advantage in relating to
the environment. The act of singing
permits us to open a dialogue with
space so that we become flooded by
its vibrations and merge with it acoustically
speaking. As soon as you sing you
get feedback from your surroundings."
